Carve Story "The Dead Kid" by Gillian King Being Adapted Into Short Film

We’re excited to share the news that “The Dead Kid” by Gillian King, published in our winter 2008 issue, is currently being adapted into a short film by Gregory D. Goyins through Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. King is co-writing the script with Goyins, who is the film’s director.

To learn more about the film, you can follow them on Twitter (@tdkmovie) or visit thedeadkid.com, where they have bios on the crew, a director’s statement, and a very cool production diary that has a slideshow of illustrations featuring one of the story’s more powerful scenes (pictured below).

We’re thrilled Gillian’s story is being adapted, and we’re eagerly awaiting the film’s release. The film is currently in pre-production with casting expected to begin in August and shooting to start in October.

Upon official release, the film’s producers are planning to partner with anti-bullying agencies to help raise awareness and recognition of bullying and how to stop it.

You can expect more news about it here on the blog as we receive it. In the meantime, you can read, comment, and share the original story “The Dead Kid” right here on Carve.
